Description
What a wonderful brooch to wear this fall! The banded agate brooch dates to the Victorian Era and is Scottish in motif. The multiple agates are set in gold colored metal that was probably gilt when it was new. The ten 10mm round cabochon agates are each set in textured edge bezels and surround the raised 25mm by 20mm oval center agate that has a beveled edge and is similarly bezel set. The entire brooch measures approx. 2" by 1 3/4". The agates are in bands of white to medium to dark browns. The brooch is very pleasing to the eye.The back of the brooch has an early addition of a silver catch assembly with fluted edge plates, an extended hinge and a curled C catch with an extended pin.
The brooch is in excellent condition with minor wear to the gilding. It is ready to be worn as an accent to your fall wardrobe.
